3D Renderings in Property Videos

Posted: March 29, 2021

With the magic of video editing, it’s now possible to create a comprehensive property marketing video for a building or development that doesn’t yet exist. Clever animation and the inclusion of site plans can do a solid job conveying a proposed design to potential clients. But what if you want to take your marketing to the next level?

Enter: 3D renderings.

While two-dimensional renderings are commonly used in brochures and OMs to showcase future projects, three-dimensional renderings and conceptualizations are an even better addition in property marketing videos. That’s because both renderings and conceptualizations are better incorporated with the other elements of a property marketing video.

We’ve spoken in length before about the most effective elements to include in a property marketing video. As technology develops and democratizes, the best things to include in marketing videos continue to change as well. Just as property marketing videos in the past used to be relegated solely to class A+ office buildings and developments in the multi-million-dollar ranges because of their high costs, 3D rendering technology is now more accessibly priced for a wider range of property types. As it continues to grow in popularity and the technology democratizes further, the cost of ordering custom renderings for projects will lower even further. There could come a day in the future when renderings and conceptualizations

What do 3D renderings look like?

Pretty much anything you want them to look like! They can be as simple as a static 3D image that can be included in brochures, OMs, and property videos.

But they can also be incredibly elaborate, taking the form of a 3D animated video with moving elements showing crowds, traffic, and detailed buildings. For a mixed-use development or very large industrial building, displaying the proposed traffic flows could be an important element to the conceptualization. In that case, including animated cars and trucks would be very useful.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO HAVE A RENDERING CREATED?

It's difficult to say what the exact cost of a rendering will be, since each project is custom. Naturally, the more complex the rendering or conceptualization, the higher the cost. It will also take longer for the animator to create a complex animated rendering versus a static image. And in business, time is money.

However, there are some general ranges that we can share, so that you are able to better incorporate the costs of renderings or conceptualizations into your marketing budget. Though most often, a developer or builder will cover the cost of a rendering.

As a very basic estimate, expect to pay anywhere from $1,000-$5,000 for a basic rendering. Anything complex, custom, or with lots of animated parts can easily cost double or triple that number.

IS IT WORTH IT?

While those numbers may seem high at first glance, think about the difference in seeing a bird’s eye site plan versus watching an animated video showing a future office and retail space, with consumers shopping and employees working in offices. It is multitudes more powerful to really see and visualize a space without having to imagine it for yourself by looking at a 2D floor plan.

This emotional power is what makes a 3D rendering an essential part of a kick-ass property marketing video. For high-profile future projects, it increases the hype and marketability of a concept.

HOW DO I FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN MAKE ME A RENDERING?

It can be difficult to find a business or animator who realizes specializes in the CRE rendering space. While our video wizardry team at Four Teams is excellent at putting together an aerial drone property video, we don’t specialize in 3D animation.

And that is exactly why we’ve partnered with another group that does specialize in 3D renderings and can do an amazing job of putting together a quote based on even the most basic of parameters.

If you’re looking for a still 3D rendering or an animated 3D conceptualization to include as part of your property marketing video, reach out to us today and we can get you in contact with our rendering partner.
